World War was torn apart by the riots of 2001. The city is now desperate
to build bridges. Tonight a Christian Pakistani travels to Bradford
to try to bring communities together.

Fascinated
customers get their hands painted with customary henna, a Sikh Bhangra
band entertains, young Indian dancers step shyly forward to perform
an ancient dance piece. . This is the best of British Asian culture
at the annual mela where people from all the walks of life come together.
A far cry from reality on the ground where communities in the aftermath
of the riots are drifting apart and the youth are blamed for the wrongs
in society.

In a few year's time half of the children starting school in Bradford will be Asians. Despite the dearth of British Asian role models, the city has a lot to be proud of. A young restaurateur, a mid wife, and a boxer all aspire to be the best in their fields. |
