First of new series. Bradford's multicultural society built up since the second World War was torn apart by the riots of 2001. The city is now desperate to build bridges. Tonight a Christian Pakistani travels to Bradford to try to bring communities together.
 


     


 

A look at marriage traditions among British Pakistanis, where arranged marriages are often blamed for domestic violence. Tonight Saeeda, a lawyer activist and aspiring politician happily married to a cousin from Pakistan, talks about her beliefs and work in Pakistan to help destitute women as three Yorkshire girls share their views that marriage is a failing institution worldwide and whilst religion is used as a justification, it is the cultural norms that create problems.

Nadeem Shah and Jimmy Dean are both successful Pakistanis married to local Yorkshire girls. Both have strong Muslim beliefs and respect for British way of life. They want to give their children the best of both worlds.
Young Tariq Shah is at university and is certain his mixed upbringing will be a great asset to his future as an aspiring politician.
 


     


 

Javed has come a long way from ejecting miscreants from the seamy nightclub as a bouncer 15 years ago. Today he owns one of the most successful leisure complexes in Europe. A true British royalist by nature, he is deeply influenced by his Muslim upbringing, His strong beliefs take him across the globe, holding free camps for plastic surgery for the victims of domestic violence in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Fascinated customers get their hands painted with customary henna, a Sikh Bhangra band entertains, young Indian dancers step shyly forward to perform an ancient dance piece. . This is the best of British Asian culture at the annual mela where people from all the walks of life come together. A far cry from reality on the ground where communities in the aftermath of the riots are drifting apart and the youth are blamed for the wrongs in society.
 
 
 
 


     


 

In a few year's time half of the children starting school in Bradford will be Asians. Despite the dearth of British Asian role models, the city has a lot to be proud of.   Produced for LEAD Pakistan, Going Places is a concentrated canvass of Pakistan's cultural diversity and its rich history. Screened at the LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) International Training Session held in Lahore in February 2001, the film targeted in particular, first time visitors to the country.

Sponsored by Save the Children UK, Extra Time was one of the first documentaries in Pakistan to investigate the dynamics of child labour in a Third World country, where combating poverty, illiteracy and over population requires along term solution. The film was screened prior to the World Cup Final in 1998.

Narrated by Jemima Khan, this is the story of one of Pakistan's most well-known figures- Imran Khan, cricketer turned philanthropist turned political leader. The video looks at his life, the search for his roots and his dream of establishing the first cancer relief hospital in Pakistan. The Untold Story was first broadcast on BBC 2 and was the impetus behind the late Princess Diana's fund raising visit to Pakistan.
