THE
COMISSIONING PROCESS
The
Process of Production
The process of production begins with programme
development, in which we help clients design a concept suited
to their needs. In the pre-production phase, we carry out the required
research for the video, design a draft script and storyboard that
is subject to approval by the client, and organise a shooting schedule.
Client involvement at this stage is crucial- it entails script approval
and development, and assistance in organising shooting locations,
logistics, interviews, events and filming permission where necessary.
During the production period, our crew
travels between locations, shooting the required footage over the
number of days agreed upon by the client. Shoots may be split up into
phases to accommodate changing seasons or particular events. Back
at the Production division, all the footage is transferred onto VHS
tapes, shots are logged and interviews transcribed in preparation
for the off-line edit. Clients may wish to peruse interview transcripts
and suggest which segments should be included in the final script.
The post-production process involves
two editing phases- the off-line edit which constructs a detailed
video using the VHS transfer footage, and the on-line edit which re-constructs
the final video using the original rushes. It is at this stage that
music scores are selected, the voice-over recorded, and graphics designed.
Clients are asked to preview the off-line and approve or suggest changes,
before the video is allowed to move on-line.
In the final phase, clients preview the
on-line video and makes any minor suggestions that are incorporated
before the video is mixed. As per the stipulated contract, the client
takes delivery of one or more digital Master tapes, VHS copies of
the Master, and in some cases, the digital tapes containing the original
rushes.
